 LGBT+ Domestic Abuse Research

LGBT+ Domestic Abuse Research

Research into LGBT+ domestic abuse is essential in providing evidence, supporting effective interventions, and underpinning strategy. Research is also important because those working in the LGBT+ domestic abuse sector are continually having to undertake credibility work to prove the worth of the by and for expertise/knowledge.

LGBT Domestic Abuse Research Guidance

A key issue identified during discussions between practitioners and researchers in the LGBT Domestic Abuse Practice Network is the need for guidelines to help improve relationships and communication between LGBT+ domestic abuse researchers, policymakers and practitioners.

In response, the following guidance has been developed.

  • Researchers working with LGBT+ domestic abuse should use this guidance in developing, delivering and reflecting on their research.
  • LGBT+ specialist domestic abuse services, and other mainstream or specialist by-and-for domestic abuse services (or wider Violence against Women services), providing services for LGBT+ victim/survivors and perpetrators, can use these guidelines tool to inform decisions about whether and how to support a research proposal. The guidance includes a template letter of agreement between a researcher and an organisation.
